On this day in music history: June 9, 1984 - “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper hits #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 2 weeks. Written by Cyndi Lauper and Rob Hyman, it is the biggest hit for the Woodhaven, Queens, NY singer/songwriter. Recorded in June 1983 at The Record Plant in New York, Lauper will co-write the song in the studio with Rob Hyman of The Hooters who will also sing background vocals on the song. Issued as the follow up to her breakthrough smash “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”, “Time” will quickly take off on the heels of the previous record. “Time After Time” will also be nominated for a Grammy Award for Song Of The Year”. Now regarded as one of the quintessential 80’s songs, it will also be covered by numerous artists, most notably by Miles Davis on his 1985 album “You’re Under Arrest”.
