On this day in music history: September 17, 1980 - “One Step Closer”, the ninth album by The Doobie Brothers is released. Produced by Ted Templeman, it is recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood, CA, Warner Bros Studios in N. Hollywood, CA, United Sound Recorders in Detroit, MI, and A&R Studios in New York City from Early - Mid 1980.  Issued as the follow up to the bands multi-platinum, Grammy winning album “Minute By Minute”, it will also be the final album to feature lead vocalist Michael McDonald, and bands’ last studio recording for nine years. It will spin off three singles including “Real Love” (#5 Pop). “One Step Closer” will peak at #3 on the Billboard Top 200, and is certified Platinum by the RIAA.
