BEHIND THE GROOVES: a music blog by Jeff Harris

On this day in music history: October 19, 1988 - “Look Sharp!”, second album by Roxette is released. Produced by Clarence Öfwerman and Adam Moseley, it is recorded at EMI Studios in Stockholm, Sweden and Trident Studios II in London, UK from March - June 1988.  Initially released only in Europe, the album will eventually see release in the US after an American foreign exchange student (from Minneapolis, MN) brings back a CD copy of the Swedish duos’ album, and requests that his local radio station play the cut “The Look”. The overwhelmingly positive response to the song will lead to the US division of EMI Records to sign Roxette to an American record contract, and release it in early 1989. It will spin off three top 5 singles in the US including “The Look” and “Listen To Your Heart” (both #1 Pop) and “Dangerous” (#2 Pop). “Look Sharp!” will peak at #23 on the Billboard Top 200, and is certified Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
